Watford Borough Council have just announced they will be raising tax for empty and second homes in an attempt to free up housing stock.
Owners of homes that have been empty for more than two years already pay double the amount of council tax, but the period for being classed as empty will now change to one year from next month. Charging double tax on second homes is a new policy for the council and will come into effect from April 2026.
